The Native Plant Study Group (NPSG) was formed in spring of 1993 and continues as a small volunteer group of native plant enthusiasts with a strong interest in gardening, restoration, conservation, and other cultural values of native plants. We like to share ideas and learn from each other – everyone is welcome! No experience is necessary, but all expertise is appreciated.
History
In spring of 1993, Adolf Ceska and Richard Hebda, botanists with the Royal BC Museum (also members of the Victoria Horticultural Society), approached the VHS for help and support in maintaining the native plant gardens of the museum.
A positive response led to an initial meeting, open to interested members of the VHS, which included tours of the museum gardens and a planning and organizing session.
NPSG is a member of the BC Council of Garden Clubs since December 2014.
Structure
The group is guided by volunteers, and coordinated by the co-chairs. Members are encouraged to volunteer. Participation in outside events, by the group, or by individual members using the NPSG name, is dependent on approval of the co-chairs or, where indicated, by the at-large membership. Activities requiring funding must receive approval from the co-chairs.
